Thank you all for supporting your children and our campus this year. Our students have worked hard, played hard, and learned a great deal about reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and social skills. Have a wonderful and safe summer! See you all in August!
White Oak Primary School was awarded the distinction of “2018 Model PLC (Professional Learning Community) School” by Solution Tree. The application process involves telling your PLC Story, describing your PLC practices, presenting achievement data, and submitting evidence of positive school culture. We are thrilled to receive this distinction that only 200 schools throughout the U.S. and Canada have received. Thanks for all of your support!
October is a very busy month. Please see below:
Red Ribbon Week is an annual event to raise awareness and encourage our young students to have healthy habits. Red Ribbon Week will be October 22-26. The dress up schedule will be:
Monday: Wear red! – Support the Red Ribbon Awareness campaign.
Tuesday: Wear your favorite team jersey or T-shirt. – “Team up against drugs.”
Wednesday: Wear dress code appropriate PJ’s – “Stay healthy and have sweet dreams.”
Thursday: Wear crazy socks. – “Healthy habits help you stand out.”
Friday: Wear Roughneck spirit colors. – “Roughneck strong against drugs.”
Our students will lead our parent conferences this year. We have encouraged our students to set goals, work hard, celebrate the things they do well and discuss things they need more help with. Our student-led conferences will be:
Kindergarten – Monday, October 29
First grade – Tuesday, October 30
Second grade, Thursday, November 1
Your child’s teacher will be setting up times for you to come by the school and share in your child’s educational journey. You will also have time to speak with your child’s teacher briefly, without the child present, if needed. If you cannot make it, we will make sure one of our staff members “sits in” for you. Please be looking for a form to schedule your time.
Halloween falls on a Wednesday, this year. Wednesday, October 31st is also an early dismissal day (11:30.) Our teachers will be in training that afternoon. We have partnered with White Oak Intermediate to make Halloween a day for celebrating reading and books. Our students will be allowed to “dress as a favorite book character” on Halloween, at school. I can’t wait to see our favorite characters come to life.
Thanks for all you do to support our youngest learners! Happy Fall!!
Next week, our students will begin going to “Morning Meeting,” in our Ready Bodies room, from 7:30-7:45. At 7:45. students will be dismissed to their classrooms. Parents may begin eating lunch with students on September 4th.
In September, you will also receive important “orientation” information from your child’s teacher. In the month of October, we will begin student led parent conferences. We want our young student to explain their goals, what they love about school, and what might be challenging. Have a great weekend!
The teachers and staff members of White Oak Primary School are excited and ready for this school year. We will see you all bright and early in the morning. Our mantra this year is ‘WE BELIVE, WE CAN, BE THE DIFFERENCE.”
Parents may walk students in for the first few days. It is sometimes hard to leave your child on the first day, but the quicker and more positive you make the drop off, the better your child’s day will be.
Parents are not allowed to each lunch with students for the first few weeks, as we are working hard to establish routines in all of our spaces.
Car pick up line will be long. It takes a while to get our young students safely to their vehicle. Please be patient. After a week, we will have pick up down to under 20 minutes.
Thank you for sharing your precious children with us.
This school-year has flown by. We have many important things happening this week. We will continue our Read a Thon. Please help support our super readers. Friday, May 4th is Grandparent’s Day. All grandparents of kindergarten students are welcome to attend! There will be a dress rehearsal on Thursday at 9:30 am. Parents are welcome to attend to video or take pictures. It will be VERY crowded on GP Day.
Next week is “Teacher Appreciation Week.” Please join us in celebrating and showing appreciation to our outstanding teachers.
